Our Troop

Our troop provides a unique opportunity for girls from 10 1/2 to 18.

We’re an award winning troop for our outdoor program. Every year we have received the JTE Gold award for our program. In 2023 we earned the National Outdoor Challenge Award. These awards are important to our troop as it recognizes the hard work of the scouts and adults to support them on our outdoor program.

We are also very happy to have given 7 pioneering young women the place and opportunity to earn Eagle Scout. They have achieved this rank through their hard work and dedication. We have provided them a supportive environment of both scouts and adults to help make it happen.

Founded in February 2019, Troop 219G is the first all-girls Troop in the Occoquan District (Now part of Prince William District).

We are a separate troop from our brother troop (Troop 295); this is more than just different numbers. It gives the female scouts in our troop the opportunity to lead and grow in their own space. At the same time, we do work with our brother troop, generally for service projects, ceremonies and district campouts.

Our Troop is chartered by Lake Ridge Rotary Club in Lake Ridge, Virginia.

The Troop meetings are held at Old Bridge United Methodist Church of Lake Ridge.

Empowerment through Adventures

Scouting is one of the few opportunities that are youth led. Scouts fulfill leadership positions, plan events, and learn how to motivate and encourage one-another to reach their goals!

Friendship:

In the outdoors, Scouts bond through their work together to complete adventures. The unity that comes through face-to-face interactions and spending weekends together completing adventures creates bonds that can’t be found in virtual worlds or some workouts together.

Character Development:

In the outdoors, Scouts have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoe and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of them as they learn to cooperate to meet outdoor challenges that may include extreme weather, difficult trails and portages, and dealing with nature’s unexpected circumstances.

Citizenship:

Good youth leadership, communication, and teamwork enable them to achieve goals they have set for themselves, their patrol, and their troop. This working together through the patrol and troop teaches active citizenship.

Personal Fitness:

Scouts are challenged in the outdoor adventure and high adventure and are pushed physically and mentally to accomplish tasks of the outdoors.

Leadership:

Scouts plan and carry out activities from start to finish. With thoughtful guidance from their Scoutmaster and other adult leaders scouts make a plan and carry out this plan. Learning by doing is a hallmark of outdoor education. A youth or adult leader may describe and demonstrate a Scouting skill at a weekly meeting, but the way Scouts truly learn outdoor skills is to do it themselves on a troop outing.
